Houston BOMA Members Take Their Voice to City Hall for Advocacy Day

Houston BOMA members and industry leaders spent the day engaging directly with the city's elected officials during this year's City Hall Advocacy Day. Property professionals and service providers came together to discuss the issues shaping commercial real estate in Houston, including public safety, infrastructure, permitting, taxation, economic development, and the long-term competitiveness of the city's business environment.
Attendees met with: Mayor John Whitmire, Controller Chris Hollins, and the following City Council Members or their staff: Amy Peck (District A), Tarsha Jackson (District B), Joe Panzarella (District C), Fred Flickinger (District E), Tiffany D. Thomas (District F), Mary Nan Huffman (District G), Mario Castillo Jr. (District H), Joaquin Martinez (District I), Edward Pollard (District J), Martha Castex-Tatum (District K), Julian Ramirez (At-Large 1), Willie Davis (At-Large 2), Twila Carter (At-Large 3), Alejandra Salinas (At-Large 4), and Sallie Alcorn (At-Large 5).
The day began with an informational session at Wells Fargo Plaza, where Houston BOMA shared tips on navigating the day's meetings and premiered a video featuring a mock meeting to help members prepare for their conversations with city officials.
Following the meetings, attendees gathered for a reception at Adair Downtown, where several councilmembers and staff joined the group to continue the conversation in a more relaxed setting. As a special touch, Houston BOMA presented councilmembers and attendees with honey from Alveole, sourced from the rooftops of buildings owned and managed by Houston BOMA members.
Advocacy Day remains one of Houston BOMA's most important opportunities to strengthen the organization's voice at City Hall. By giving members direct access to the policymakers who shape the rules affecting their buildings and businesses, the event helps ensure that decisions about Houston's commercial real estate landscape are informed by the professionals who operate it every day. Houston BOMA is proud to continue paving the way for members to build these relationships and advance policies that support a thriving commercial real estate industry in Houston.
Special Thanks
Houston BOMA extends its thanks to the CBRE team at Wells Fargo Plaza for hosting the informational session and to Alveole for providing honey sourced from member building rooftops.
